Edit with AI
Tell Claude what to fix. Watch the editor do it.
Screen Records has an MCP server built in. Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or any other MCP client can open your project and cut, zoom, caption and export it, on your own subscription to them. Every change shows up live in the editor as one undo step.

One prompt
What I asked for, and what it did.
A 36-second test recording of a planner app, with a slow start and a few pauses while I typed. This is the whole prompt.
edit recording-2026-09-23-16-47-04 Screen Records video. increase padding 2x, make lighter background, add captions and trim the fluff in the beginning of the video. trim pauses. add auto-zoom on clicks. on latest phrase, make camera full screen. export video in auto, medium quality.
- Padding
- doubled, from 19 to 38.
- Background
- Graphite swapped for Mist, a light one.
- Captions
- transcribed and placed at the bottom in the default Clean style.
- Intro
- the first 10 seconds of desktop and "hi, testing my MCP" cut, so it opens on the product.
- Pauses
- five removed, 8.7 seconds in total, including two while typing.
- Zoom
- turned on for clicks, which gave three zooms that follow the cursor.
- Last line
- the camera goes full screen for "Now let's edit."
- Export
- checked the frames first, then exported at 1080p.
It went from 36 seconds to 14. The captions needed a one-time 540 MB speech model, and it asked before downloading it.
Before and after
The same recording, both versions.
Left is the raw take. Right is what came out of that one prompt, with nothing touched by hand.
Setup
One switch and one pasted command.
Open Settings → AI and turn on “Let AI tools edit projects”. Then pick your client and copy its setup.
Claude Code
Copy the command from its tab in Settings, paste it in Terminal and press Return.
Claude Desktop
Run the command from its tab in Terminal the same way, then quit Claude and open it again so it picks the server up.
ChatGPT and Codex
Copy the command from the ChatGPT / Codex tab and run it in Terminal.
Cursor
Cursor opens its MCP screen with data already filled in, asking to install the MCP server. Click Install
Anything else that speaks MCP
The Other tab gives you the address and the token. If you know where your client keeps its MCP servers, paste them there.
Each setup carries a private token for your Mac, so keep it out of chats and screenshots. New Token disconnects every client at once.

What it can do
Anything you would do in the editor, asked for in words.
The AI works through the same edits the app gives you, so nothing it does is a black box. You can see every change on the timeline and change it back.
Cut by the transcript
Remove words, sentences or whole stretches by what was said, the way you would edit a document.
Remove pauses
Find the silences and take them out, or only the ones longer than you say.
Zoom
Add zooms on clicks, or at the moments you name, with the depth you ask for.
Captions
Generate them, fix a misheard word, change the style, export them as a file.
Text and images on top
Titles, labels, a logo in the corner. They sit on the finished frame, so zooms do not move them.
Camera layout
Full screen for the intro, a small bubble after, hidden during the part with your inbox open.
Style
Background, padding, aspect ratio, camera shape. Everything the style panel does.
Look before it decides
It can pull frames from the video to check what is on screen before it places a zoom or a cut.
Export
MP4, GIF, audio on its own, or captions, into your export folder.
Privacy
What stays on your Mac, and what the AI sees.
The server runs inside the app, on your Mac. Your project files and the full video are never uploaded. What the AI reads to make its edits, the transcript and any frames it asks for, goes to that AI provider under your account with them.
Frames are rare. Most edits work from the transcript alone, but if the screen showed anything sensitive, check the chat for frame requests. So the rule is simple. If you would paste the transcript into that chat anyway, let it edit. If the recording shows a customer’s data, cut that part by hand, or leave the switch off.
Questions
Editing with AI, asked and answered
Do I pay extra for this?
Not to us. The AI runs on your own Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or Cursor subscription, and Screen Records adds nothing on top of the license.
Can I undo what the AI did?
Yes. Every change it makes is one step on the editor’s undo stack, the same as if you had made it by hand. Your original recording is never modified: cuts, zooms and styles are instructions on top of it.
Can I edit in the app while the AI is working?
Yes. You both work on the same open project, and the preview updates as changes land. If you change something by hand, tell the AI, so it reads the project again before its next edit.
Does any of my recording go to the AI company?
What the AI reads goes to it: the transcript, and any frames it pulls to look at the video. It rarely pulls frames, since most edits work from the transcript alone, but if the screen showed anything sensitive, check the chat for frame requests. The project files and the full video stay on your Mac. If a recording shows something that must not leave your machine, edit that one by hand.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. Claude Desktop and ChatGPT are chat apps. Setup is one copied command pasted into Terminal, and after that you ask in plain words.
How do I switch it off?
Turn off “Let AI tools edit projects” in Settings → AI. To cut off every connected client at once, press New Token: each one then needs setting up again.
Record it yourself. Hand off the edit.
Three recordings free. Then pay once.
